I was reading someone today (can’t for the life of me figure out who it was, now), and this question posed itself to me, via the page: can you go back and edit your life, removing a Huge Mistake (if you have several to choose from, choose one), and still get your life to the point where it is today? (presumably a happy place)
I’ll try — getting married the first time: okay, if we scratch that, then I don’t have the huge shock to my ego from the divorce, which means I don’t do all the soul-searching and self-evaluation and get my shit together, which means I don’t start going outside more, so I don’t meet the girl who knows Jackie, and we never get together. (Also, theoretically, I never get my act together well enough to get the job offer in Denver.)
Extra credit question: this exercise is (a) liberating (b) depressing (c) pointless
Dave is right: history, even if it’s personal history, is neat.
