Magdalene from her-thoughts.com sent me a great email today. I checked out her site, which in turn led me to the Tolerance.org Hidden Bias Tests.

People who know me like, rily rily well might know that I’m always watching myself when it comes to bias, especially race bias. I come from a inherently race-ignorant and biased area of the country, and I work very hard to combat this. I think I do a good job most of the time.

The tests aren’t about how well you do consciously, though, they are about your instinctive reactions, which I was curious about.

Statistically I didn’t do badly at all on the race bias, especially for my ethnicity, sex, and age group, and I didn’t surprise myself with any of the other biases, which I know I have and which I sadly don’t work on as much (though I’m curious to go back and do the age bias one later — I didn’t get to it and I have little or no real opinion or expectations about it).

It’s a pretty cool page. It’s also an org, so it’s somewhat more likely to not be either a sham or a scam. I didn’t link to the main page because trying to get to the testing part is really annoying — I’m not sure if “Hidden” refers to the biases or the freakin’ test.

But I’m off track. Check out Maggie (sorry if it’s bad to shorten the name, but I do it to… well, everyone), cool page. Cat person, but what’re yah gonna do? :)
