i did: make a hundred bucks a month, on average, off some kind of writing. i have two stories in the mail, although i don't expect to hear anything back from them until feb. 1. "lanes of the living dead" should go out tomorrow.
uh, doyce? how are you going to get a novel through over three slush piles unless you're doing simultaneous? anyway, in the jan 2002 science fiction chronical, it states that several publishing cos. are no longer accepting unsolicited ms. due to 9-11. i didn't see any obvious sf publishing cos--let me know if you want the list.

Baen has a digital slush pile/discussion group on their web site. Ditto Tor (but not as slick).
Who else is there? Hmm. I must be rejected by at least three :)

Read the story finally. You did an excellent job setting stuff up (just a couple of places here and there that need to be edited).
But you did drive me nuts because you didn't say what happened to his wife right away and then there's Epiphany!! DAMN!!!
Its a good story. Planning a sequal???

i've really only been looking at mag sites...harper collins, ace, ballantine, bantam, del rey, eos, pocket--wait, that's one of the ones that's not taking unsolicited--roc?
how is the second draft going? just about done yet?

I think (no, I KNOW) that the GM in me doesn't like giving things away about anything in the story until they are drug out of my kicking and screaming.

The second draft is, indeed, better.
