Go me.

Now I need to decide if I want it.

Upsides: Big-time possibilities in management. Small company using black ink for the book keeping.

Downsides: Considerably less than what I was making, with a chance to go up to about the same level. They’re worried I might be a flight risk, but still really want me. Told me to think about the money for a few days.

Congratulations. Some people naturally just land on their feet.

Dude, that's my ASS I'm on, not my feet. (The black patent leather confuses a lot of people, don't worry about it.)

I was assuming there was a significant bounce in there. :)

Congratulations! Not bad for a response, I think, all things considered.

Is that "low" number their original offer? You could try negotiating for something higher, or perhaps ask for a starting bonus, rather than salary.

Or perks.

Just picture my ass in black patent leather, and you'll see the visual image/joke I was going for. Then you'll get it.

I'm not sure you'll WANT it, but you'll get it.

Well, even if you don't take it, I think it's keen that you got an offer.

And if you do, I have no doubt you'll rise to the challenge (and to the salary level you're looking for).

The main question is, money aside (and, yeah, I know, but from what you've said the money part is not the critical gonna-be-eating-the-cardboard-box-I'm-sleeping-in it might be for some), is it something you want to do? Will you be excited in the morning? Will you regale your friends or readers with cool things you'll be doing?

Or, put another way, if you took this and someone else offered you a different job the next day, would you be kicking yourself?

Easy for me to soap box this, I know.
