So, as mentioned, we got another puppy. The justification put forward by my darling wife is that Jake needed a playmate.
Anyway, we went back to the Puppy Rescue, which is where we got Jake; these are folks who keeps the pups at foster homes during the week and only show them on the weekends — great people. We came home with a female German Shepard mix (I’m going to say crossed with a lab, but I’ve got nothing to go on for this but the ears, which could also be Rottie ears.)
We think her name is Dizzy. We’re not sure yet. Officially, she is Jackie’s dog, and she gets to name her (choices are currently Dizzy, Gina, and Tori), but come on, people — I’m in the house alone with the dogs all day — I could get her to answer only to “Fuzzbut” if I wanted to.
Both of the dogs are smart. This is good. I’m reminded again of how rabid I was to have a well-trained dog when we got Jake, and (although he’s still puppyish) I can see in contrast how well-trained he is.
Diz has the same sort of ears that Jake does… they start to go up, wolf-like, but that top two inches flop over, due to whatever breed she is that isn’t Shep. Great ears. She has a great, intelligent face, with the same funny forehead wrinkles Jake has.
Diz (coat and coloration is 100% shep) has a much better winter coat than Jake, who has the Black Lab coloration, but a very Dane coat, which means quite thin on the belly, lower chest, head, and legs — not ideal winter fur. Thus, Diz loves being outside more than Jake, since it doesn’t bother her at all.
The cats hate them both equally.
