Lileks reviews “The Core”:
[…] if it’s midnight, and it comes on cable, and you don’t have to get up tomorrow, and you’ve had a few, and the only other option is HBO’s “Real Sex Outtakes: Seabiscuit Edition” , sure. Give it a look.
Really, all movie reviews should be so concise.
In that vein, let me take a shot at “Once Upon a Time In Mexico”:
Someone please give Rodriguez enough money to tell all four of the stories he’s trying to tell in this single confused outing. Or not, actually… I’m not sure any of those four movies would have been that interesting — it’s a situation where four weak stories have been knotted together simply to hold each other up — four senior citizens with only enough money in the budget for one walker.
One sentence summary: I’d be interested to see if the DVD cut-scenes make the story any better, but only if someone else buys the disc.

Shame -- it looked (in the ads) like a fun movie.

It's not nearly as good as Desperado was. It's confusing, jumbled, and it feels like he left about half the movie on the cutting room floor.
