The weekend started a bit early, since Spiderman 2 opened on Wednesday. Enjoyed it very much, though the MJ/Peter angst/drama that I see on the horizon (“I love you no matter what, but I’m going to mope about not being the only thing in your life.”) doesn’t exactly make my jump for joy. Oh well: that’s the story, and it’s not like it doesn’t sell.

Friday, we had the usually folks over for the game (about which there’s more to be said elseblog). Coming in on the big finale, (which has taken a bit longer than I’d expected) which could be very interesting. I’m trying not to have any expectations about what’s going to happen.

Saturday we started the day with some yardwork and then lazed about a bit. By about nine in the morning, however, it was becoming clear that Jackie wasn’t going to make the Mini-Margie Gras, and that she was in fact feeling like hell — and no doctor’s offices open. Come to that, I was pretty darn tired and ended up getting to the festivities a bit late and suffering from a real sledgehammer of a sinus headache for most of the night. Such is life.

Sunday dawned with Jackie feeling not one bit better. I decided to stay home as a show of moral support against her sore throat (which basically meant going to get her FF X-2 for cheap at EBX so she could play that while I read all day. Later in the day I got an itch to pick up Blade 2 (mostly because I wanted Hellboy and it’s not out yet), so went down to the local Blockbuster to see if it was in the previously-viewed disk area. It wasn’t, but they did have a pretty good holiday sale on: I ended up getting Big Fish, the Cowboy Bebop Movie, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Daredevil, The Singing Detective, and Dirty Pretty Things for something like 7.50 a disk. Sweet, plus all (with the exception of DD) stuff I haven’t seen yet. I watched Bebop that night and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Monday was a day off whether I wanted it or not, apparently, so I basically read all and ignored the ‘internet’. I’ve decided to go through the entire Dark Tower Series from the beginning before starting the two newest books — it’s been close to ten years since the last time I read Drawing of the Three, and I know there was stuff in the last book I’d read (Wizard and Glass) that I was missing as a result. It’s really interesting to read a series like this from King, spead as it is throughout the entire length of his writing career; you can really see his style mature. Also, a damn good epic tale. I’m not much of a King-fanatic, I’ve read less than half of his books (though that will change as I try to pick up all the Dark Tower connections from his other books), but he really is one of the best writer’s I’ve read. Anyway.

Monday evening I tried to corral everyone together to watch Big Fish… Jackie isn’t much for Tall Tale movies, so she didn’t make it very far, but I believe I’m going to try to get her to watch it through with me some other time. I’m not a Tim Burton fan (frankly, most of his stuff bores me to friggin’ tears), but Big Fish is simply great: I laughed, I cried, it changed my life, yadda yadda. If you haven’t seen it, see it.
