Gonna try out this design for awhile… see if I get sick of it. Input will not result in smiting.

I like the Gray and yellow, but the orange is a bit hard on the eyes.

Which orange? The color of the titles or the links?

(And yes, I know the template for the comments is messed up, but it's late and you can still basically read the screen, so you'll just have to wait until tomorrow afternoon for me to fix it.)

Oooooh, that's annoying... it's only messed up in firefox, which means that somewhere in the code I'm a mensch.

(And don't look at the code -- it's ugly ugly.)

Light grey on white... Oof.

Also, I'd be happy if you brought back obvious date separators. And me, I'd got for more content, less whitespace between it...

But do you really have goldengod.com? That, my friend, is a kickass domain.

Agh! Light grey print! It burns, it burns!

Buncha wusses.... darkened up the text for you.

Looks good to me. Except the comment preview template, of course ...

Well, I was going to say the orange in general that it was too light, but it looks better now. I don't know if that is because I'm on my laptop now, or if you darkened it too. I think it looks cleaner over all though.

So, I drop in to check on the Bear and I get blinded by the sudden whiteness.

Expect a medical bill, buddy.

My eyes!!! My eyes!!!

My advice? Shoot this design and put it out of our misery.

Hard to read. The text is way too light for the white.

I agree that the light grey text is too light for me. I like the layout, but it seems like there's almost too much white space with larger window sizes/resolutions. Hm...okay, I really like the layout, but the lack of contrast is hard on my nearsighted astigmatic eyeballs.

"My Eyes, My Eyes" is unhelpful.

Funny, but unhelpful :) Which part causes the burning?

posted by Doyce, October 13, 2004 04:52 PM

The grey is too pale, the orange marginally less so. It doesn't actually burn. It looks like a headache coming on.

posted by Randy, October 13, 2004 05:21 PM

Sorry D, going for the funny.

1. The Orange text is eye-wrenching and causes me to squint so that my eyes can adjust
2. The grey text is too light, also causing the squinting/focus issue
3. The white background with light colored text also causing said squinting

If you really like the "feel" of the site, here are some suggestions:

1. Change the grey title bars to a darker grey so that the orange is easier to read
2. Use a darker orange or bold and increase the font?
3. Use either a darker grey text or increase the font.

Conclusion: I can read the title just fine, but the body and links are too hard for my increasingly poor eyesight to read without getting a headache. Actually, if you changed the background to black, I think that would help a lot. Don't do it in the body text areas, but it might have less of a whitewash effect. Other than that, I do like the fonts and layout.

Stand back, everyone, I do this for a living...

The layout is good, but I've always liked boxes. The orange, the orange in the post titles...tone it down a bit, son. That's where the retina-burn is coming in. Gray and white with pale drop shadows under the boxes...tres cool. Pale orange...tres ow.
The extra line-y thing between sidebar and main body...eh. We get it, no need to beat us over the head, THEY'RE TWO DIFFERENT SECTIONS, YES!

Ok, I'm done.

:)
