Well, time for an update to push that rather dark post down the page a bit. Let’s see:
The kitchen tiling project is almost done. Total elapsed time: let’s call it about a week. I have before, during and after pictures to dump onto my PC and post up here. Except for a few bits of trim and one carpet strip I want to recut, we’re pretty good.
The bathroom tiling project continues into infinity. Current elapsed time: about one month so far, with no reliable end in side. The tile is uneven, the grout is… rough, let’s say, I still have to put the new doors in, caulk them, caulk the drain (and see if I hooked it up so it doesn’t leak).
Oh, and we tossed the old ugly Moen fixtures that were in the shower. Problem is:
1. Moen DOES NOT MAKE two handle bathroom fixtures anymore at ALL. They have lots of single -fixture set ups, but I already cut two-inch holes in the tile wall for the current configuration.
2. To switch to some other brand of fixture (or use a different Moen config), I’d have to tear out four square feet of tile, cut THROUGH the new cement drywall, install new copper pipes that fit the brand in question*, and put the whole thing back together. Sure.
* - All faucet brands make sure they mount to the house pipes different, so you can’t just remove Moen handles and put in Delta, or vice versa.
In essence, I’m screwed there unless I can find some kind of repair kit. Utterly screwed. Anyway.
The new laptop works fine. Except that it dies 70 seconds after you enter Windows on battery power. And only full windows… not safe mode windows or cmos. Battery works just fine then.
Driver? Hmm. I’ve formatted and reinstalled.
Then I repartitioned, formatted and reinstalled, on the off chance I had a bad spot on the hard drive.
I’ve removed, swapped, and reseated everything that can be removed, swapped and reseated in the system, short of the motherboard itself.
I’ve upgraded the bios.
There should be a new battery on my doorstep tomorrow by noon. If that doesn’t fix it, it’s the motherboard, and I’m sending it back. I don’t know if I’m going to try again.
What else? I’m hosting an out-of-office team meeting at my house on Tuesday afternoon. Whee.
