The new news on Movable Type. Keeping in mind I’m a blogger-baby with no interaction with Greymatter, here’s a 5-point-review.
- Much faster updates than Blogger (theoretically the same as GM)
- I really miss the [ctrl-shift-b] wrapping highlighted text in bold, or [ctrl-shift-t] wrapping things in italic. (Blogger feature)
- I REALLY miss [ctrl-shift-a] opening a hyperlink box/wizard (another Blogger thing).
- Remarkably clean and pleasant interface with layers and layers and layers of customization. Fully realized, it can be all you could hope for in nearly any journal-activity.
- Setup can be a little hackle-raising, but really wasn’t too bad - if you can read and FOLLOW instructions, everything is there. You WILL NEED a decent free FTP program.
- It’s new: there are some nice features, and some stuff I’ll never use, and there is occaisionally a dearth of documention “because it’s right there on the main screen” (where I’d never think to look). This will go away with time, I think.
Yeah, it’s six points, so sue me. All in all, I’m quite pleased. There’s some stuff in here that I might never use, or stuff I’ll only see an application for later (given the way I use the product), but I think my whole experience has improved slightly right off the bat, which promises to be an even bigger improvement as time goes on.
