I’ve been Joe Homeowner for the last few days: Jackie bought a new dishwasher (her name is Sung-li, har — I’ve been watching too much M.A.S.H. *sob*), and I installed the thing on Friday, not only getting out the plumber’s tape to seal up some fun and exciting leaks, but actually removed the power cord from the old washer and REWIRED it (properly, I might add) to the new machine to make it go. Witness my handymanliness.

Yesterday, we completely emptied the fish tank and replaced all the grungy bits with clean bits. You can see everything in the tank clearly. Those of you who’ve been to the house recently will know what a startling thing it is to see the wall behind the fish tank by looking THROUGH it.

It’s hard for me to get the gumption to work on the tank, because I think having the fish is a little silly. We have two cats, two dogs, and a boy — we’ve got more than enough things in the house to entertain us.

If we’d wanted to watch something brainless move aimlessly through a liquid medium, we could have just gotten a lava lamp.

I had fish once, when I was not allowed any other pet. They held on after we moved and got two cats, but then the water softener died, and that pretty much did it.

Finally gave the very nice tank tank setup to my dad, who is using it to overwinter his pond fish...

The last time I had fish, it was in the 2nd grade classroom I was teaching.

The fish were much fun, except during long weekends, when they'd die.

No more fish. Give me a cat any day.
