Today I’m learning.
Not a big thing, I suppose, considering that I’m at a new job that supports software for a field I haven’t been involved with since the summer after my freshmen year in college.
But it’s boring.
I’m not contributing: I’m getting caught up. I’m reading manuals and watching CBT’s and (worst of all) can’t make notes in the margins of these big-ass books because they don’t belong to me.
The other trainer/other owner is out on a call this morning. The guy sitting in the next cube over just left on a call. What will be my accomplishment today? Figuring stuff out. Go me.
I carried (okay, wheeled, using a hand cart) the User’s Guide for our software back into the other trainer/other owner’s office today. On the way back to my cube, Sales Guy, from his office (you’ll note the distinct and accurate usage of ‘office’ versus ‘cube’), says “got bored with it?”
“Got done with it.” I replied.
He laughed until he realized I wasn’t, then looked confused when he then realized I wasn’t joking. I’ve moved on to the “train the trainer” manual. I learn by reading, not by listening, you see — 20 years of RPG’s have drilled that into me.
The faster I get this learning crap over with, the sooner I can get out and start doing something that’s… else.
I’m a good teacher. I’m an equally bad student.
