Rooba posted this first, but could anyone read this and think I wouldn’t comment?

Good for Dad. Get that soap. Granted, I never got my mouth washed out with soap, and granted, I’d feel like a hell of a hypocrite for getting on Justin about swearing — or at least getting on him this strongly. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea for this guy. Good for him.

(The best I can do is tell him he isn’t allowed to swear — if he mentions that I do, then I calmly explain that it’s just one more of Those Things that Grown-ups Get to Do and Kids Don’t — that’s not a wholly invaluable lesson to learn either. And yeah, I have been making an effort to swear less, I just use Farscape curse words more.)

But creative punishment? The Testerman household is THERE, man.

Had my mouth washed out with soap by the grandmother a couple of times, proably realated to taking the lord's name in vain. Not sure it had the desired act since I don't think that's such a big deal now. However, when surrounded by folks who cursed alot, my vocabulary definetely slipped. After 5 years working in title insureance (where they speak words sailors don't say), I realized how I'd let these words creep into everyday speech. Glad to have reformed. Better to be creative.

Kids need to be diciplined, that's life. I don't support abuse but I do support punishments. I think that if the courts basically rule that no one can punish their kids that they and their supporters should be held accountable when the kids steal cars, end up in jail or end up murdering someone because "they didn't know any better". grrrrrrrr
No one has to take responsibility for their own actions any more.

Too many lawyers. America has something like five times as many lawyers as lawyer-ridden France. Back when they were not so ubiquitous only the rich and corporations routinely sought to escape the consequences of their action. Now we get bottom-feeders either going after the estranged wife to sue the ex for ordinary discipline, or being low enough to take the harpy's useless case.
