For reasons that should be obvious, I collect (or at least generally take note of) interesting names. Here’s a few that have found their way into my notepad over the last few days:

Hammersky
Seborne
Juki
Hatfield
Dillon

Also, I wrote down Nicholas and Alexandra, not for the novelty rating, but simply because I like the names and happened to run into them during the day.

Anyone else encountered good ones lately?

Lately? No, but I have a memo in my Palm (two, actually, one for male names and one for female names) where I write neat names I run across.

Ones pulled from publications I've read at work have been:

Auriea
Cauleen
Yarvina
Daleeya
Lakshmi
Chideya
Averlyn
Amitav
Collignon

I have others. I do like Hammersky. Makes for a good dwarven name, methinks.

Nicholas and Alexander are Katherine's cousins. They held onto Alex until the second one was born because they like Alexandra.

My newest LC character's name is Aodhan. I like the name and I like the gaelic spelling.

Aodhan: pronounced how? Ahn looks possible. If it's old Gaelic, they'd pronounce the 'dh'. In the actual Gaellic is there an accent over the initial 'a' or 'o'? That usually indicates which one isn't silent.

I work on a customer support hotline and have been collecting unusual names for a few years now. One of my recent favorites is Luz Mangulabana. :) If you would like, I can send you an Excel file with the entire list.

I'd be interested in a file with a list of unusual names.

One of my favorite (people) and unusual name Antja.

My brother's name is Nicholas. I think my name is kind of unusual due to the way it's spelled. I've also seen Meggan spelled like Mayghann.

Weird names are becoming the norm. For instance here is what my friends have named their kids:

Passion
Chance
Destiny
Serenity
Sierra (which is becoming really popular where I live)
Shareena
Ireland

I also went to school with people named:

Sunshine
Montana (girl)
Dallas (girl)
Athena
Rock
Trampus
Soledad
Starla

I come from a traditional name type of family and I don't have any friends with wierd names. I work with a girl named Sada which I kind of like. (it's middle eastern). But the best name I've seen lately is a last name. At the baseball games they give the scores from around the league on one of the auxiliary scoreboards. A couple of nights ago at the game, some pitcher in the east was named "Tim Spooneybarger." That is one goofy name, even for baseball.
