Well, I didn’t give a preview of the weekend on Friday, so I’ll just summarize now, and you can make your own guesses as to how close to plans everything ran.
Thursday Night: Introduced the Tear of Ra at BenCon — it was a big, smoking, howling, explosive success, which was cool since I’ve been really stressing over the whole thing. Jackie was also at the Con, doing her own thing and had a good time.
Friday: Jackie spent the whole day at Bencon while I was at wor-- wait a minute… I suddenly didn’t feel very good at about 10 am, and by 10:30 I was at home, flat on my back and sick as a dog. Food poisoning is great. I recovered enough to stagger over to the Consortium to catch the season premiere of Farscape that night — looks pretty damn cool. I’m stoked.
Saturday: More Tear of Ra Pulpy goodness in the morning (feeling much better, thanks), then on to the Team Event thing that I’d been dreading. Turned out that the TEAM part of the Team Event was fine, but our judge was absolutely painful — at the half-time break, we unanimously decided to can the whole thing and just do something - anything - else, rather than continue to waste time with that guy. Bad, bad, judge. I went home and printed stuff out for Sunday.
Sunday: Prepped for the awards ceremony. Ran a table of Star Wars in the mid-morning, but got hung up behind some fire trucks headed into the mountains between first and second slots and missed the second slot, so I ended messing around as a “Plain old spectator” for the afternoon. Jackie showed up for the awards ceremony and got her name mentioned a few times. Rey and I spoke on behalf of the Pulp people, we gave out a few prizes, donated the Big Prize to charity, I bought a little scarf thing for Jackie in the benefit auction — it was a good time.
Funny thing is, as long as the weekend was, there have been weekends just hanging around my house when I’ve done at least that much stuff — so in a sense it really wasn’t that big of a deal… just a lot more running around.
