The problem with rearranging the categories of all my old entries is that saving changes takes approximately a gazillion years.
Each.
Wonder if that sort of thing has been improved in MT 2.2. Hmm. Might have to get around to updating that pretty soon, but it’s just working so well.

I haven't noticed any performance improvements in MT2.2, alas, even with MySQL (which, nonetheless, is just a Good Idea to use). And, yes, categorizing is dog slow (largely because it ends up doing a rebuild everywhere the file goes -- date archives, category archives, etc.).

It's still slow, but less slow, with 2.21 and the old Berkeley db. Where I have seen a noticeable improvement is in the speed of posting new entries. (Or maybe that's just being able to tell what part of the slowness is the ping.)
If I'd known you were considering uploading old entries, Doyce, I'd haev told you to categorize them before you load them. It's a pain in the butt, but it may actually be faster than categorizing them in MT.

My problem isn't that I'm importing old un-catted entries, it's that about 6 months of MT entries were made, and THEN I added new categories... so the "old three" categories need to be broken up more thouroughly.
Just bad initial setup on my part. :)

Actually, what I'm doing right now is working:
Open three browser screens simultaneously, all to MT, and all to 'edit entries'.
Keep cycling through them, making changes. Usually, at least one of them is ready to do something.
That MT can handle that level of screwball usage is a tribute to its solidness.

Oh, yeah. I've been pounding at that database all day, multiple windows, and as far as I can tell, it's pretty damned solid.
