I’m firmly of the opinion that there are two different audiences that you write for: yourself and everyone else.
Many people say you should write for yourself in the first draft and everyone else in the second. The people that say these things are all good writers and I agree with them.
But, um… Doyce, you wrote your other story on a blog, and you’re writing this one on an even more public blog.
Well, you’re right, but I have a funny attitude toward the blog — I don’t really think of this as writing for other people… it’s more like I’m in a room in my house, talking (because after all, it’s me, and I’d be talking), and you guys are walking through and overhear me.
Is this how I write everything? Oh hell no. Feedback really keeps me energized, but the fact is that I don’t really listen to critiques and questions until afterwards, anyway. It’s kind of crazy, just posting my stuff out in raw format for everyone — I don’t know a lot of people that would do it willingly (at least not first drafts. :)
So, I really hope you like the thing I’m going to put up here, but please remember that if the parallels are obvious or the symbolism is a little heavy or I over/under explain… well, this time through, I’m not writing it for you :)
I just really want to see what happens.
It’s called Vayland Rd., btw.
