Saturday-8: “Annoyances”

1. The easiest place to look and find annoyances within one’s life is within himself or herself. What, if anything, annoys you most about yourself?
   I sometimes procrastinate on important things. Right now, that list includes tags for my car, a hotel reservation I need to make, and moving forward on some publishing stuff.

2. Most people know at least one person who seems to make your skin crawl and hair stand on end at the sound of their voice. Who is that person for you and why is it that you find them so annoying?
   
   Sadly, my aunt. It took awhile, but she was persistent.

3. Television can be annoying to. Is there a television show or a movie that seems to be on TV all of the time that you find absolutely intolerable and what bothers you so much about it?
   
   I really hate live Court shows, talk shows, and things like Cops. Find me a show where people are being filmed acting their worst and I’ll find you a good reason to read more books.

4. Name a song that you hate to hear on the radio and what do you think about, if anything when you hear it?
   
   The worst songs are the radio are bad because they’re entirely forgetable, so it’s sort of hard to answer this question. Having said that, I intensely dislike the current P-Diddy ‘hit’. R&B has somehow gone from being smooth and subtle to direct and coarse. Sounds old-fogey to say it, but it’s true: give me Barry White using a little poetic license any day of the week over the detestable lyrics of “I need a girl to ride, ride, ride.”

5. Time to pick on the ones we love. Name three people who are close to you and the things that they do that you cannot stand.
   
   1. All my mom’s letters contain several paragraphs on who’s dead, dying, or sickly back in South Dakota.
   2. My lovely wife leaves her footwear in the most annoying, right-in-the-middle-of-the-floor places.
   3. Justin is very… eleven.

6. People have differences of opinion. Names something that you appreciate and at least one person finds annoying or vice versa? Why do you feel this way?
   
   My wife has a friend from work whom she likes a great deal. I don’t for any number of reasons; not a bad person, just don’t like them.

7. Is there anything that at some point you did not like and now enjoy? If so what is it and what changed you mind?
   
   Nothing springs immediately to mind. I am constant in my affections.

8. For you last question, of all the people and things that annoy you person, if you had to a choice to eliminate one from the world entirely, which one would it be and why do you feel you and every other human being are better off without it?
   
   Talk shows like Jerry Springer. Does humanity really need a reminder of how poorly we can act as a species? I find it embarassing that people behave that way and doubly embarassing that people find it entertaining to watch.
