The friday five was all about jobs last week.

1. What is your current occupation? Is this what you chose to be doing at this point in your life? Why or why not?

I train people on the proper use and maintenance of [insert software product owned by current employer here]. It pays the bills, pure and simple.

2. If time/talent/money were no object, what would your dream occupation be?

Writing. We’ll see how that goes.

3. What did/do your parents do for a living? Has this had any influence on your career choices?

My dad worked as a farmer for thirty years, then bought into a trucking company (by buying a truck) and drives. He’s always held ‘working for yourself’ to be a very significant goal, and I agree with him. (It’s hard and risky to do that with software training, but maybe with the dream job…)

4. Have you ever had to choose between having a career and having a family?

In minor ways, yes (getting out early for a soccer game, or getting in late for parent-teacher conferences). Nothing major thus far, however.

5. In your opinion, what is the easiest job in the world? What is the hardest? Why?

Anything you have to pay someone to do is not ‘easy’, by definition.

Hardest: window washer in Beirut. Heh.

Seriously? Looking for a job when you’re not working is the hardest job I’ve ever had.
