After almost two months of on-again, off-again work, the five juniper bushes that have crouched malevolently on the corner of our front lawn for the last 15 years finally gave up the ghost.

Actually, they had the ghost pulled away from them with a log chain (except for the one I tore out of the ground with my bare hands and grinding teeth) after I got home from work today. Frankly, I wanted to work on something else this weekend.

Anything else.

I dropped down some preliminary mulch, but that was really just to keep the landscape tarp down — we have every intention of starting the landscaping some nice crooked-branch cherry trees out in that area before it gets too late into the year.

The Boy’s been out there every weekend with me, scratching up his arms and hauling off branches. He’ll be taking his well-earned paycheck to the game store sometime this week, I think. He’s already mentioned it twice.

Nasty, brutish ball-like stumps they were, for the record: after this long each branch that grew out from them immediately dropped to the ground and crept along it like a snake. Ugly. Not bonsai material, my hand to god.

Well, I'll just have to take your word for it, won't I?

Hearty congrats!

Now I gotta get cracking on finishing the fence, dagnabbit, before it (and my car) get lost in snow drifts ...
