Well, it’s come down to this: Firefly basically needs to see a nice upswing in ratings tonight (which wouldn’t be hard, coming off an all-time low a few weeks ago).
Yeah, tonight, that would be the same night that Harry Potter comes out. Something tells me there might be some demographic overlap there.
*mumble*
Anyway, come Monday Fox will probably announce who’s staying and who’s going in January — they’ve already paid for and shot the first 13 episodes and ordered another three.
I would honestly be perfectly happy if some other network like UPN picked up Firefly (heck, even if it moved to F/X, and that’s saying something) — UPN could afford it — the great irony of Firefly is that it’s much (33%) cheaper to shoot an episode of that show than it is to shoot either Angel or Buffy — the production costs for shooting scenes are much lower (no latex = less money spent on paying actors to sit in a makeup chair for two hours), and the (very nice) CGI is apparently quite cheap.
Certainly, I hope it stays right where it is and gets the full season that it deserves (which should be enough to get a solid fan base and keep flying).
Barring that, I haven’t given up hope. I’m a sucker that way.
