I’ll admit a small obsession with odd names — whattaya expect, it’s a personal thing. So you’ll understand my glee at running into Baby’s Named a Bad, Bad Thing, in which we learn that, without a doubt, I got off pretty easy with ‘Doyce’.

It’s simple. Some parents are just plain crazy. But few are as crazy as soon-to-be parents, who, wrapped up in the fear and anticipation, the social status and expectations, go just plain mad.
Some parents-to-be have gone so far into the realm of baby-obsession they have lost track of the real, adult world. Their view is so skewed their only concerns are a) making their child “unique” and b) trying to keep the kid from being teased, often with terrible results.

Laughed til I cried. Those poor kids.

*deep sigh* My father decided to forcibly insert some sort of half-assed ethnic pride into my character when he named me after a Czech author/playwright by name of Karel Capek. (R.U.R., War With The Newts... good stuff, actually.)

Balance the geek-cool factor of being named after a semi-obscure early SF writer with being called "Carol" by every teacher at every school I ever attended through my entire childhood. Did I mention that we moved on average of every six months until I was 17? Grr.

I remember R.U.R. Good stuff. Immediately saw the problem with the name, on the other hand, and dislike the name "Joyce" for probably similar reasons.

I tell you what Doyce, you are truly evil. You should be getting a call from my IT department about replacing my keyboard. :-) Pepsi out the nose is not a happy thing.

I admit that my name is a self-imposed imposed punishment, but i don't mind it so much when I can get such memorable screw ups like being called "Matey" (She was the regional manager of our chain of stores... i almost busted out into a Popeye dance)... my last name is also a joy, but I have ethnicity to blame for that as well :)
