So if you were watching Firefly this week, you’re now familiar with the phrase “I’ll be in my bunk.” (For those of you who missed it, this is what Jayne says when he sees Inara the Companion with her current female client. Then he staggers off screen.)
Funny line. Everyone laughs. Everyone repeats it, laughs some more, and chuckles.
Unless you didn’t get the joke.
But who wouldn’t get the joke?
Well, a twelve-year old might not.
Did not, in fact.
So this morning, appropos of nothing: “So… what’s a bunk? Like a bedroom?” I explain the concept of a bunk. He shakes his head. “I still don’t get why that’s funny.”
A lesser man might shy away from sex education, but I’ll be damned if I let the boy go through life not getting a joke.
I mean, that’s the important stuff.

I do not know which is funnier. The "I'll be in my bunk" quote and the fact that we all had such a great time laughing at it. Or the fact that Justin sat there and didn't get it.
At least you didn't have to explain "Take me Sir...Take me hard"
Also, I don't want to know if Justin has made it to the "Aubre" = "I'll be in my bunk" phase yet...

Since Justin hangs out with the grown-ups (and boy do I use THAT term loosely when it pertains to our group of friends) quite a bit, I can say that there's still a lot of our humor that goes over his head.
A good thing, in that it's the sort of stuff I hope he doesn't 'get' for awhile.
It actually provides a good way of keeping track of where he is, mentally. When he starts to get a certain kind of joke, I know that it's time to have another talk with him :)

As to Lori's comment, I can only say that while he might get the point of the joke, he still doesn't exactly get... the point of the whole thing.
Abstractly, yes, but I'm pretty sure he's not in the 'bunk' stage yet.
God help us all when that happens.
Provides a fun euphemism, though.

That's ok guys. I wasn't meaning "Aubre" in the "I'll be in my bunk" context anyway.
You just mentioned Justin and I remembered how much fun it was to watch him turn red when ever her name was mentioned.......
I figure I can be the older obnoxious sister he never had hee hee

Yes! that was great fun. I haven't seen red like that in a long time.
The whole "bunk" thing reminds me of a time long ago and, well here, when my parents couldn't get a baby sitter for me and took me to Blazin' Saddles. Man did my dad have a fun time on the driv home trying not to answer the snitzengrubben question...along with others.
