We did not end up getting the PS/2 for Christmas this year. Thought about it for quite awhile but the bottom line is that the only machine we can hook it up to easily is downstairs and I don’t want it down there. At the current price and all necessary add-ons (like an ‘optional’ second controller?!?) the only way I can justify it is if we can immediately take advantage of it’s DVD player functionality upstairs, and right now we can’t (not without losing the VCR, which we need). Sure, I want it, but I can wait. C’est la vie — I’m still getting the crap scared out of my by the first Resident Evil — it’s not like I spend enough time playing computer/console stuff to warrant the money anyway. Also, the sales guy at E/B was a complete dick about PS/2’s in general and has probably cost that store my business. We walked out of there after having already taken all the components up to the counter to buy. Let them figure it out.

I don’t want an Xbox. I don’t want a game cube. I don’t care if Sony has a corner on the console market: Microsoft doesn’t need another market to rape, and Nintendo doesn’t deserve it. Done and done, let’s move on.

I don't inderstand why you can't run the PS/2 upstairs and keep the VCR. I run both without any problem. Just get a A/B box or a spliter. PS/2 has a spliter that they market (I have it) and it works just fine. I had some fun doing the surround sound/audio routing, but it all worked out fine in the end.

I could run the PS/2, but I'd basically have to route it through the VCR.

If I run it through the VCR, the DVD player functionality on the PS/2 goes away, because DVD players screw up the image if it detects a VCR on it's outbound line.

An a/b box might work, but again that's really more than I feel like spending on the whole thing at the moment. With all the stuff you need to get to make it playable (basic unit has only one controller and no memory cards), you're looking at 300+ to get going.

I can wait. It will drop. A year before the PS/3 comes out I'll have the PS/2, playing Rez and raving about the trance-music-shooter sub-genre, because I'm that lame.

I knew there was a reason I'd steered clear of the whole console game thang ...

I'm a real geek.

I've got both a PS/2 and a Gamecube. I would like an Xbox, but a buddy of mine has sworn to take it out and shoot it if I get it. It's too big anyway.

I just got everything hooked up with optical cables and RGB now, SOCOM Navy Seals rocks with progressive scan. Got the broadband adapter set up on the PS/2 and have played some SOCOM on it, works really well.

Those controllers with the fans in them work really good too.

Graphics wise, I prefer the GameCube. Mario Sunshine is just way cool, as is Metroid Prime, which should be here for Xmas.

The PS2 is a good thing, you should keep it on your list - and make one of the first games you get Dark Cloud, though the second is coming out soon. We actually use our PS2 more for the DVD and CD player than we do as a console. Though we do have a few games, we're more the renter types, FFX, Dark Cloud, Kingdom Hearts - guess it depends on what kind of gamer you are, we also have Grand Turismo 3.

We have a gamecube too, finally broke down and bought it. Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Animal Crossing... much better than what microsoft has to offer.

Just be glad you're not getting a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come.
