1. Kleenex or tissue? Paper towels from the kitchen. I’m a big guy and I blow my nose like a big guy.

2. Soda or pop (or tonic or whatever)? I used to say ‘pop’ when I lived in South Dakota, but now it’s “soda”, though I said it like I’m from South Dakota (which is to say with a long O and an accented ‘dah’ at the end. Good norwegian boy, donchaknow.)

3. A sandwich on a long roll: sub or hero (or hoagie or grinder, etc)? Sub.

4. Glasses or spectacles? Glasses

5. TV or television (or boob-tube, or telly, for our friends across the pond)? TV or idiot box.

6. Movie or film? Both. Movies are the word for blockbuster-type things, while film is the word I reserve for artistically good cinema… the movies I like the best are the ones that are also great films, obviously (and vice versa).

7. Sofa or couch? Interchangeable.

8. Stove or range? Stove.

9. Remote control or clicker? “The Boat.” — It’s a long story.

10. Supermarket or grocery store? Grocery store.
