This-or-That: The Arts Edition
1. Poetry or prose?
Prose. Poetry generally leaves me cold.
2. Funky modern art or the older, “classic” variety?
Tate Britain over Tate Modern any day of the century.
3. Sculptures or paintings?
I like both, but I guess paintings win, since painting prints look much more like the original than sculpture prints :P
4. Theatre: exuberant musical or serious drama?
I really like musicals more, but there are any number of serious plays I’d like to see right now.
5. Ballet or modern dance?
I’d say Ballet simply because I haven’t been before and I’d like to simply to form a proper opinion.
6. Movies: major studio or indie?
Indie stuff rarely covers the genres I enjoy.
7. Authors: Shakespeare or Dr. Seuss?
I love my Willy.
8. TV: PBS or A&E?
A&E. I got my fill of PBS by age 8.
9. Music: Beethoven or Beatles?
Beatles, but only because there isn’t a Big Head Todd & the Monsters option.
10. You are a contributing member of your favorite art museum, and visit on a regular basis. They announce a new, temporary special exhibit by an artist surrounded by controversy…this person’s work and/or political views offend you. Do you stop supporting the museum, or just stay away during the time the exhibit is there?
I’d just stay clear — I have a right to not give them money, but I did give them money — at that point the museum has a right to spend the money supporting or hosting whatever tour they think will reach the largest audience… I don’t need to be in ‘the majority’ for every art show… by definition, there’s already enough people for that, so I understand.
If they continue to host show after show that leaves me cold, however…
