Seki points out a disturbing trend in the extreme left (which unfortunately veers off topic in the comments section, but…) — the extreme left cares more about things than people.
Think about it, the extremes they go to over spotted owls, ancient redwoods, archaeological treasures…
A smudge on the memory of my hero… Indiana Jones is a rabid left-winger. :(

As I posted in response to you in my own comments (which are off topic, sure, but still talking about the looting incidents):
Dude, did or did not Indiana Jones sacrifice the Ark of the Covenant to save the woman he loved? Oh wait, nevermind, the Ark pretty much saved itself. Ok, did or did not Indiana Jones sacrifice two of the three Big Sacred Rocks to save Short Round and, against all logic, The Squealing Woman? Did or did not Indiana Jones sacrifice the Holy Grail to save the life of his father?
Apples and oranges, my pet.

Looting
I just read a piece by a guy in Bagdhad who says most of the looting there is of Ba'ath party facilities, hospitals and stores that only Ba'ath party members could go in.
Sure there has been other stuff looted like the Museum but it would have been impossable for the Army to start defending museums when there are still Jihadists running around in the city lighting themselves off by APCs.
My question on the Museum of Antiquities is, why wasn't it sand bagged and locked up like european museums were in WW1 and WW2?
"Capt. Greg Robertson of the 4th Battalion, 64th Armored Regiment, explains the true situation in detail: "To say there that there is anarchy is not true, to say that there is looting is true. But if we shot looters, we'd be shooting women and children left and right."'

You only have to be sad about Indy if you accept the hypothesis that only rabid left-wingers care about artifacts. Which, I suggest, is not the case... ;)

Actually, as Seki pointed out, I have to be sad only if Indy sacrificed people in favor of artifacts. Not the case. :)
