I’ve been remiss in weekend posts of late. Let me redress with a summary of a very game-filled weekend.

Friday
Everyone was over at the Consortium for the DnD… thing. I need a better name for it. Anyway. Ginger was in town (dammitall if I don’t get the Consortium in-laws names screwed up just horribly) to help with Margie-recovery, so with two Kleerup women in da hizzow, muchies were aplenty. Had fun with the game — more on that in geekier forums, shortly.

Saturday
Jackie was off to her three-weekend hell class very very early on Saturday morning, which left Justin and me to crawl out of bed sometime… well, before Noon, certainly, if not by much. Justin had a soccer game at 2, so we bundled up the gear and got there in plenty of time — I even set up the shade-tent thing we take care of for the team. The dogs stayed at home and they missed out on quite a game. The final score was 1-0. Justin played the entire game in the field and had a number of very good defensive plays (including no less than a dozen ‘heads’ — his noggin was tender afterwards). Really really good game.

That afternoon I did a (Very) little yardwork before the CryHavoc boys showed up. Things assembled slowly for the game and I spent the intervening time babbling about Nobilis. More on that later, but elsewhere, I promise. (Said as though you could prevent it at this point.) Fun game.

Sunday
Justin’s team had one of their (several) make-up games on Sunday, but not until 4 in the afternoon.

… Hmm. I’m trying really hard to remember what exactly we DID before the game that day, but I have no idea. I can’t imagine it was anything useful or responsible or I’d have a deeper feeling of accomplishment and personal sacrifice…

Oh yeah, we went to home depot and bought some stuff, none of which we’ve used yet. (I did try to put on the new/replacement toilet seat downstairs, but we got the wrong size and have to return it.) The ‘patching’ mulch and flowering plants are waiting until sometime this week or weekend.

Then, off to the game. The kid who’d played goalie the previous game had claimed he was ‘really bored’ in the 1-0 game (the defense only allowed 4 shots on goal), so the Coach asked Justin to play in the net.

The Boy played out of his head: my personal favorite play was

he leapt on the incoming ball as a kid was kicking it…
it popped sideways out of his arms from the incoming kick…
allowing another kid to kick it…
Justin leapt across on his knees and got a hand on the ball as it was kicked…
which pushed it sideways…
it HIT THE CORNERPOST OF THE GOAL and bounced back into play…
and he threw himself over backwards and finally got complete control of it.

The parents gave him a standing O for that one. I was too busy with the defibrilator I keep in the Soccer Bag. The final score was 1-1, and their team remains Undefeated this season. Justin was given the “Man of the Match” award by the visiting Denver Competitive Soccer Director who came to watch the game.

Afterwards, we ran home, then over to Dave and Margies for a little impromptu Happy Anniversary dinner (see Sunday’s post), followed by making up Nobilis characters for a ‘test run’ I want to do. Somewhere in there Margie’s quietly horrified mother went upstairs to read… I’m sure she’s used to overheard comments about Orcs and Flaming Arrows, but the frank discussion of possible flaws for the Baroness of Lust left her a little cold. (I feel remorse about that… until then, I think Margie’s folks might have thought Jackie and I were some of their daughter’s “normal friends” — or at least it was easier to believe the illusion.)

Again, more on the Nobilis thing elsewhere, and soon.

And that’s the weekend: many games, and not enough sleep.

Don't worry about Ginger. She's unflappable about her daughter's foibles and friends.

Dave's right about my mom. She also crashes early and is up well before dawn and Katherine.

Her only comment from the Sunday group was - "Randy didn't say much but he listened to all the questions and answers."

Wow...Magie's mom was up before Katherine. I didn't think that that was possible.

Yeah...and the rest of you were probably all busily interrupting Doyce about how the game worked...

*grin*

Way to go, Justin!!!! Wish we could see you play, it would be so fun. I haven't been on this computer for weeks(quite unlike my son, in that area) but I'm sure glad I got on tonight to read about the week-end fun you had. Keep up the good job, Justin! Grandma Jo.
