I’m very much not a follower of 24, but this article “Accident-prone ‘24’ is torture for experts” got my attention, mostly because I found it really interesting to learn the ‘real’ way such injuries and traumas are dealth with.

(No idea if there’s spoilers in here, but…)

Saif Nazir, a doctor and president of the Illinois chapter of the American College of Emergency Room Physicians commented, “The last couple of episodes, where the gentleman was dead for all practical purposes and is being resuscitated without an airway, are just appalling.”
Nazir began rolling his eyes when Bauer’s plane crashed and the hero pulled a tree branch from his leg. Such a wound would be enough to send a soldier home from battle. The muscle and tendons would be damaged, bleeding would be extensive and infection would set in immediately. Bauer was barely limping 15 minutes later, and he didn’t even need a Band-Aid.
Nazir recommends real secret agents applying a pressure bandage, cleaning the wound as soon as possible and not parachuting from an airplane later the same day.

Other ‘sins of ignorance’ commited by the writers include Bauer watching a nuclear blast from relatively close range

Given the weapon was detonated in a depression at ground level, there are good odds he could survive the blast and heat. As for watching the event itself, that is not something you recommend for a healthy life.”

… and reviving him from death (after being shocked to death by repeated defibrilations) after depriving him of oxygen for over five minutes.

“In this day and age, to show a resuscitation without giving oxygen first is very sad,” Nazir says. “The man is dead and 15 minutes later is up again and killing people. The writers should have had someone to guide them.”

There’s some more stuff in there about the fact that emergency docs haven’t shot adreneline directly into the chest in nearly two decades… things like that.

Television shows that aren’t accurate. Who knew?

I dont' really know enough about medical procedures to pick up on the oxygen before resuscitation thing, but the fact that Jack died and then had the strength to take out a room full of people five minutes later irked me. Well, that, and the fact that Jack's daughter is an idiot. *grin*

That's funny, I was in the ER of the premire hospital in Oregon and our designated Mass Casuality care center and I saw a big needle in a case where the Morphine was...sweeet sister morphine...

I asked the nurse what it was. It was adreneline, and I asked is that a heart needled? Yes it is.

Keep it away from me.

Chemical Warfare Suit Kits also have heart needles.

Yea there are some problems with 24, but the USAToday article is a nitpicky one.

Dunno... Has some potential.

Jack Bauer as Corwin explains the incredible survival rates *and* his child being an idiot (as Nicole mentioned earlier, Kim is so dim she makes Merlin look clue-rich).
