Planted the sand cherry bushes and a couple other smaller things. Smothered another twenny-fi sqwa feet of grass under new mulch. Seeded another hunnert sqwa feet with some replacement patching-mix.

Mowed, taught the boy how to.

25, 30 more practice sessions and he pry won’t leave lines in the lawn everywhere. :)

isn't that about how long it took you to figure out the lawn mowing. Remember that one summer where we had so many frogs and you would chase them around the lawn trying to mow them? At least you don't have that problem yet!

God, I would so kick the boy's ass for screwing around like that, too.

See, it's stuff like that that makes me wince when he does something really annoying, because I probably did that too.

In my defense, when I said "you'll pry be really good at this after about 20 or 30 more practice runs" to the boy and he asked "Why?", my immediate answer was "because that's how long it took me."

What 'till he discovers the joys of riding in the mud. Talk about lines!

Just out of curiosity, why Sand Cherries?? I've been meaning to add a few bushes for landscaping and haven't considered the Sand Cherry.

Well, we wanted a bush or short tree that (well, in my case, anyway) was sort of gnarley and broad, with some interesting coloration and some flowers. Crabapple trees and especially japanese cherry trees spring to mind as examples. My wife really didn't want the sort of trees that drop any sort of small fruit, since it stains the walk and gunks everything up around it, so that ruled out a number of possibilities.

The sand cherry (or dwarf plum purple sand cherry, or a couple other names) is a tallish bush (about 6'x6'x6', full grown) that has reddish-to-dark purple leaves (depending on how much sun it gets) and gets these tiny little white flowers on it in the spring. No fruit, and otherwise a nice sort of miniature 'japanese-style' cherry tree.

Also, upside/downside: we know they grow well around here, since there's at least one on every block in our neighborhood.
