The Boy, on waiting for call-backs from various soccer leagues:

Him: “Hey, my PE coach at school has these fliers on tackle football… you know… I mean, I like soccer… but… if they don’t call back… I could do that, maybe.”

Me: “Football’s only the fall season.”

Him: “But, in the spring, they have golf.”

Me: “And you’d be okay with that?”

Him: “Sure… heck, if we got signed up and they called back after that, we could just tell them no.”

Me: “So you’d actually rather do that.”

Him: [long pause] “Kinda.”

Me: “Okay, we’ll check it out.”

Him: “They have baseball teams, too.”
