  • Friday:
People over tonight. Yep, although we got started very late and quit pretty early. There was much socializing prior to that, though, so it wasn’t as though it was a bad evening.
  • Saturday: Mixing paint and painting the main livingroom/dining room area of the upstairs. Heh. No that didn’t happen. Here’s what did:
    • Go to Home Depot to get a mixing bucket. Pick up a few sundries, including another gallon of white to mix into our ‘cheap’ paint (which bucket has now cost us about 100 bucks when you count all the gallons of white we’ve gotten).
    • Finally admit to ourselves that the cheap bucket of paint we got at Home Depot (cheap because it had been returned) is just too damn dark to get to a light color — we would end up with four 5-gallon buckets of ‘they-almost-match each other’ paint by the time it was light enough. Give up and take the whole mess back.
    • While at Home Depot buying two gallons of paint that actually MATCHES what we’ve already painted, pick up two big bags of cedar chips, some revita-fertilizer, and oh yeah, a small refridgerator for downstairs (good price).
    • Go home, planning to still get some painting done.
    • Get home and realize that the weather is almost nice out and that we should really do the lawn stuff while we’ve got a chance.
    • Dig a hole for the tree on the side of the house, and realize that the actual SOIL for the yard ends about 3 inches down, where it is replaced by an amalgam of cement-hard sand and chunks of soapstone the size of my fist. Getting a 3-foot wide, 1-foot deep hole takes 75 minutes — we break two deep-core drill bits before we reach ‘safe depth’ and can plant the nuclear device that will save the world.
    • Plant the tree, realize that it’s already 3 pm. Opt to forget about the painting (except for mixing the two gallons of custom color together into one bucket to make SURE they will match each other) and spread cedar chips around the flower bed. It looks pretty good.
    • Take the fridge downstairs, stock it, clean up, and go to C.B. & Potts for “lupper” (thanks to Lori and Dave).
Randy and the CH people are coming over Saturday night. Wonder of wonders, that actually happened as planned.
  • Sunday: I’ve got this… thing that I promised I’d help with. I did aformentioned thing and it was nothing more or less than I expected — a waste of my time that someone else was moderately grateful for. Meanwhile, Jackie did ALL the painting we’d planned to do on Saturday and it looks great. Touchups and the Very Annoying Hallway are my job next Sunday.
  • Alias was really good.
