We’re buying big rocks today.
Nothing particularly special about the whole thing, just big flat rocks. Stepping-stone rocks. The plan (using the term loosely) is to finish the abortive stone path we started last summer, which will lead in pleasant, wandering fashion across our lawn in two directions from our front door. After laying in the flat stone, we’re going to build a flower/rock-bed sort of thing along the whole path.
This will serve several purposes:
- Keep people from trudging a well-worn path through our poor, easily-abused lawn.
- Break up the lawn into three far more interesting subsections that we can ‘do stuff with’.
- Replace the really crappy sections of the lawn that refuse to grow with stones and flora.
See, I had this idea today that the second path, the one leads down to the side of the house, isn’t going to flow in a straight, boring line. I want it to wend. I want it to meander.
I want it to cut directly through all the areas where the grass seed won’t take. That’ll teach em.

Good plan, man. Good plan.
Get some big grasses, some rose bushes, some other things to break up the Great Plains, and you'll have a little corner of Eden there.

Can I help? I'll bring the concrete - We cut the shapes you want directly into the dirt, pour wet concrete, and make paw prints with the help of two dogs and the boy. :) I did this with my God Daughter, Micayla a couple of years ago.

It's not a lawn unless you have some ornaments for the local highschool kids to steal on drunken dares!
Deers, or Frogs, or Yeti.

Gnomes. Lawn gnomes.
With glowing axes and staves of wizardry.
Yeah. I like it.
