the friday five:

1. How often do you do laundry?
How often do I do laundry? Not nearly often enough, and that’s just me talking, not Jackie. I loathe and detest the very act of doing laundry: washing it, drying it, folding or hanging it (though I’m too picky to let anyone else put my stuff away) — I hate it.

How often do “we” do laundry at the house? As near as I can tell, there’s something going through the washing machine every night.

2. What’s in a typical wash load?
Whatever it is, my favorite pairs of socks are never included.

3. Front or top loader? Powder or liquid detergent?
Top loading. Liquid detergent tapped from container about the size of a Ellis Island ferry (Sam’s Club bulk size).

4. Do you use fabric softener in the rinse cycle?
Jackie does, I think — she’s got one of those Downy balls that you just drop in. I’ve had too many articles of clothing ruined by screwing up the fabric softener delivery, so I never use it — there’s always dryer sheets available instead.

5. Dryer or clothesline?
We have a dryer, but we also have a clothesline strung in the washroom for stuff that just shouldn’t go in the dryer every week (most of my sweaters).

Bonus Blabbering: The Weekend
People over tonight (color me much unprepared).

Saturday will be writing in the morning, then over to the Consortium for Jsquad around noon, then back to the house for the Cry Havoc people (with a possible guest appearance from Madeleine), since she lives right down the road.

Sunday will be a whole lot of nothing, followed by digging up a few of the sprinkler heads that aren’t turning right (at which point I’ll probably stare at them, put them back in the ground, and accomplish nothing).

You've ruined clothing with fabric softener?
Don't you just re-wash it?
Color me confused.

If you spill fabric softener (liquid, that is) directly onto dry, prewashed clothing, it picks up a stain that (in my experience), never goes away.

Not only that, if you go into a place with blacklights, you can see whom uses liquid fabric softener since it floreses (glows - I baddly mispelled that word there).

I can't touch the dryer sheets, makes my hands itch.
