Thanks to Stephanie, I was reminded that long-time blogger Frykitty was getting ready to do the annual Blogathon.

Obviously (see the banner?) I’m participating.

So… what is this? Lemme see if I can boil it down:

• I pick a charity that I want to earn donations for.
• I blog for 24 hours straight, starting at 7 am on July 27th. The people who donate to my charity pledge a flat dollar amount or a “per hour” amount (but I’ll hold you to that if I go more than 24 hours :)
• Afterwards, you’re contacted by the staff with all the information on how to make your donation… it’s on the honor system: you don’t give anyone but the charity your money, and we don’t double check to see if you did it.
• The homepage for this event is here, the faq on the event is here, and you can sign up to sponsor me here (I need at least three sponsors, but I’d sure like more). There are also a lot of other good charities you can sponsor, listed here.

Hopefully, this won’t come across as the frantic, impassioned rant of the newly-converted. I’m not trying to reinvent myself or pretend I’m anything more than I am (an obsessive-compulsive with narcissistic tendencies, in case you’re keeping score), I’m not the sort of person who’ll walk around with a ribbon pinned on my shirt and pamphlets in my car but I want to feel like I’m doing something.

Make that 2, this is my way of doing something too! Sorry it can't be a bigger pledge, but it should be pretty good if you can come up with stuff to talk about for 24 straight hours.

I'm trying to think of the last 24 hour period when I couldn't think of anything to say...

I've got another friend doing this who said he's done it before and this year he was going to post a lot of links... Seems like a lazy way out, but if you're on the 20th hour and have writer's block, I guess it's better than nothing.

There may be a link or two in mine, but I think I might write stories about my Dad from when I was a kid.
