The Monday Mission.
1. What is your favorite snack food? Does anyone you know have weird tastes in snacks?
Yesterday’s Answer: Dear god, don’t mention food!
Today’s Answer: I like salty corn chips, dipping salsa optional. My friend Toni used to eat saltines with margarine spread on them… that was a little odd.
2. Ever caught yourself saying “well it can’t get any worse” and it does?
I work with software and computer hardware. I never say “it can’t get any worse” or “there’s no place to go but up.”
The fact is, there’s always more down.
3. I have a super-short attention span, and it always was my downfall in school, especially math class. What’s your attention span like and how has it served you?
I’m mildly Obsessive-Compulsive by nature, so with regards to whatever my current project is, my focus is so good that other things suffer for it.
However, knowing this, I’m very careful about adopting new projects, since the automatic corollary is “to the exclusion of all others”. When I’m in that ‘open’ mode, I tend to flit around from project to project a lot more.
4. Do you believe in the existence of extra-terrestrials?
It’s frankly inconceivable to me that in a universe the size of which we are only beginning to grasp, other sentient creatures have not evolved… it simply must be the case.
On the other hand, I think of faster-than-light travel not so much as a scientific inevitability, but as wishful thinking on the part of people who see that there must be other life, but that it’s too far away to make any difference.
Is there other life out there? Yes? Does that matter? Probably not.
5. What do you think of the whole “crop circles” phenomenon?
A Hoax. You have no idea how bored you can get on a farm.
6. Ever had a time where you begin visiting with someone you don’t know all that well and just find you “click” like long lost pals? Tell me about how that came to happen, and who was it? What kind of things do you have in common?
It’s happened, of that I’m sure. No specific recent instances come to mind, however.
7. When I was at the cemetery a few weeks ago, I began to recall my Dad’s funeral so many years ago. It is so vivid, sitting there in the family room as his friends passed by and paid their respects, the music, his face, the tears. What funeral do you remember most vividly?
My grandfather’s. I was 10 and it was the second funeral we’d attended on that side of the family during that year. Neither of the deaths were ‘natural’, so it was a pretty traumatic year.
BONUS: How can I forget you, girl?
I’ve found that time and a couple good books work wonders.
