Clearly, I’m either doing something wrong with the trackback code, or the trackback code isn’t very tidy.

If I have 494 posts on my front page and there is ONE ‘pingable’ trackbackable post anywhere on the page, and I link to that page, REGARDLESS of where I link to that page, the post is going to ping that damn trackback for the post.

If there are TWO on the page, then it gives me the choice of #1, #2, or Neither, but not if there’s only one.

Sloppy.

Trackback seems to designed for single-entry-per-page blogs (like mine), rather than multiple entry ones. Which seems to make intuitive sense, at least to me, since there's no real way for the code to know which snippet on the page is identified with a particular link unless you tell it.

If I hit my 'comment' link on the main page for this entry, the main page itself will shift from "http://bears-cave.com/" to "http://bears-cave.com/#1504".

It seems to me that if I hit the 'post' button at that point, creating a link specifically to that post, not to the 'whole' index, it should be able to sort it out.

But yeah, you're probably right about the single-entry thing. I may slightly modify the way that sort of thing works on my page, but it won't involve individual entries. Ah well.

Actually, my problem is that you can't tell it NOT to ping if there's only only trackback on the page, but you can if there are two. Mostly, I'd just like that option on all the time.
