No idea where my Grandma found this recipe, but after I had it at Christmas I begged it off her so I could make it myself (which I think I’m going to do this weekend).

Hopefully I won’t be voted out of the family for sharing it, but it’s just so dang good.

1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into 1/2 in. cubes
1 medium onion, chopped
1.5 teasp. garlic powder
1 tbs. veg. oil
2 cans (15.5 oz) great northern beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (14.5 oz) chicken broth
8 oz chopped green chilis
1 t. salt
1 t. ground cumin
1 t. dried oregano
1/2 t. pepper
1/4 t. cayenne pepper
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup whipping cream

In a large saucepan, saute chicken, onion and garlic powder in oil until chicken is no longer pink. Add beans, broth, chilis & seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat & simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Remove from the heat, add sour cream and whipping cream. Serve immediately.

Hmmm....Sounds tasty. But what is a great northern bean?

I should point out that my Grandmother, bless her heart, substitutes butter for vegetable oil.

The Beans -- think "white pinto bean" and you've got it.

Yes most mid-west grandmothers make that kind of substitution. Can't go wrong with butter....mmmm.

Ok, White pinto's, right. Works. I was thinking that they may be navy beans. Reading the the recipe from the top I was thinking that was a fairly good low fat thing...right up to the sour cream and whipping cream. Then it became hot n' spicy creamy delight. A cornicopia of creamy goodness.

Obviously you need to make it Saturday, and to make a lot.

Oh yeah, good stuff, have the same recipe but I use turkey breast. More meat for the moolah.

I'm gonna tell on you.---Just kidding. Did you make it yet? Was it as good as Grandma's? The beans can be found in the same location as all the other beans. They're in a can so makes it very easy.
