I had a couple people ask me Saturday night how I’m ‘holding up’ at work. Apparently I’ve been giving the impression of being run ragged lately, so I thought I should set the record straight.

I am busy. This is true. My weekdays are filled to overflowing and I’m working on enough stuff that keeping it all clear is challenging.

Challenging. Not overwhelming. Right now I’ve got my mental tachometer running high, but it’s short of the red zone and I think that’s all to the good. Work is hopping, and frankly I’m as happy as I’ve been in a long time.

I won’t lie; getting home later on most nights than I would if I weren’t training can sometimes suck*, but I’m training and dammit, I’m good at it, and I like the people I’m working with. Also, I have a pretty good support network back at the office — as good as the one I had in my last job.

I guess… I’m looking at the schedule for this coming week and it’s full of me doing something that I’m good at and genuinely enjoy. There are worse things.

* — One thing that’s been helping me make up for time lost has been the way we’ve been spending our time in the evenings. Almost every night we go down to the Rec Center (free membership comes with our pointless HOA fees) and ‘do stuff’, to quote The Boy (right now, I’m running about five miles a night in a seventy-minute turn on the elliptical machine and it feels pretty good) — yes, we do a lot of ‘extra curricular’ stuff together, but this is something new. Thought I’d share.

So anyway, if you’re worrying that I’m about to frazzle and burn out, don’t: I’m busy, but it’s sort of nice to be busy.

Glad to see that you guys are still having fun at the Rec Center. And you're all doing it together. Wish we had something like that here. But we have the Nordic track and I haven't used it for quite some time. No one to blame but myself. Dad, on the other hand, has been on it every day since the 31st. He sleds it back and forth about 45 min a day, increasing each day 'till he reaches 60 min. He's feeling better now too. Hurrah!!

Hi Doyce. Just visiting from elsewhere late at night. Been quiet there lately. Maybe you should move to New York City? You won't have time to get 'paranoid'. I always felt that people feel that other people have opinions of them that are far more extreme than they really are. Most people are the center of their own universe, that's survival. Not that I always advocate survival of a species. Well, I gonna check out some other stuff on your site... '

I just wish you were back in the office so you were only working 8 hours instead of 10-12.
