So Justin had physical fitness tests in P.E. yesterday, and mentioned that he’d gotten the highest score you could get in push-ups.
I asked him how many.
“Twenty,” he said.
Twenty? Anything higher than that they didn’t bother writing down, so twenty was where you might as well stop. And it’s an untimed test.
Twenty. For sixth grade. You can max out your ‘curl-ups’ (sit-up/crunches) at 75, but only twenty push-ups.
Does that seem low to anyone else?

Nope.
That is below the bottom of the scale for 18 yr olds in the Army. I think the minimum there was 30.

Given the fitness of most kids that age, 20 as the "top" sounds about right.

I think it's low - when I was in sixth grade, we had to do at least thirty just to pass.

We recently did a fitness thing here at work. I think for an adult male he had to do 40-50 push ups to be average. Females of course were more like 25-30 in the modified pushups. WOO HOO!!! I'm average!!!

For comparison, if your curious. 42 pushups and 52 situps for 18-21 yo male soldiers. 18 pushups for women, situps the same. Minimum standards.
