This is quickly becoming my favorite weekly QnA. The Thursday Thumb-Twiddler:

1. Would you prefer to be blind or deaf?
Ugh. Prefer? I suppose, since I work on computers so much much and have this blog and store practically everything that I do in a textual format, that I would have all kinds of problems if I couldn’t see.

That said, losing my hearing would rob me of normal conversations, and I know I’d never really get my sign language up to par. Running games would be quite difficult.

Okay, taking the whole thing together, I’d have to say that I’d sacrifice my hearing, because honestly, it’s so bad now that I’m closer to having compensated for that.

But I wouldn’t be happy about it.

2. If you could transfer to your mate the one trait that you possess that you wish s/he did, what would it be?

Appreciation and enjoyment of comics.

3. If you could fly in a hot air balloon over any city in the world, what city would you choose?

Moscow or Berlin. Flip a coin… Moscow. (Mostly because I’ve never been there and I have no idea how the city is laid out, and I think I’d find it interesting to be introduced to it that way.

Or Atlantis. Atlantis would be good.

Maybe I should have said, "Would you be least unhappy about being blind or being deaf?"

Glad you're enjoying it.

Hey Doyce, you hinted at Jacking not enjoying comic books, have you ever seen a copy of Girl Genius by Foglio? Mayhap Jackie would find it interesting...

Just a thought...

Actually, if this medium follows true to form, what might get her interested in a comic is a strong female character (it's held true for television, movies, and books), so all I need is a strong female lead that hopefully isn't blatant cheesecake.

Hmm.

I'm starting to understand why she's not into comics. Too bad that The Authority doesn't make much sense without all the back story. Girl Genius might be a decent idea, but it's story is a little thin, IMO.

Dunno. Nothing springs to mind. I keep thinking she'd like Strangers in Paradise, but then there's getting her to read it.

If SiP had walking dead in it, there'd be a better chance.

Ruse.

SIP would work, too.

Let me peruse the shelves ...

Usagi - some strong female supporting characters, and definitely non-cheesecakey.

Bone - ditto. And kind of off-beat.

Planetary - Jocasta Wagner rocks. The "parody" aspect might lose her, though.

Sandman - Not good for female characters perhaps, but some great stories she might really like. Or not.

And that's just the downstairs shelves ...

Midnight Nation would be a good one, I think. I haven't read the last few issues, but it just finished its limited run, and will be compiled in TP soon. Plus, it was written by JMS, so if Jackie's a B5 fan, that's a way to draw her in.

Aria started strong, then died very, very, very quickly, alas.

::thinks about comics I get::

Have you tried Dork Tower, Knights of the Dinner Table, and PVP?

Young Justice would be good, but it'd be kind of hard to pick up in the middle of the run, I think. Lots of backstory. The guys are really the main focus, but they've had some good girls in it (I love Secret) and it's written by Peter David.

SiP - She has got to love a female lead that can kill a man by smashing his nose into his brain.

OR Gun Smith Cats - Get her hooked with the anime and move to the comics.

I also like Ruse, Girl Genius, Berry Ween, Liberty Meadows, Dork Tower, Authority, Bone, Usagi, Whiteout, and Astro City. Sandman is good but a little to twisted for my taste.

If she is like me she doesn't like having to wait months between story parts. I won't read SiP until it comes out in trade paperback. I hate getting into the story and boom.
