Jackie thinks our neighbors are running a drug ring out of their basement.
Evidence in favor:
Other neighbors drive up or stop in at the neighbor’s house, either going inside or visiting on the driveway, then they leave again after a few minutes — almost as though our neighbors were running an informal daycare, but they aren’t running a daycare.
Evidence against:
Our neighbors are absolutely not running a drug ring out of their basement.

Walk over, ask them for some crank. Then you'll know :)

You evidence 'against' looks pretty shakey - The circumstantial evidence 'for' looks mighty suspicious.
I lived in the other side of a duplex from a crack dealer in Detroit. That was fun.
You'll know it's drugs when the word goes out wider and you start getting strangers knocking on your door by mistake. Then you'll know.

In an apartment complex we lived in the downstairs neighbors were so bold as to have "Stop" and "Go" signs to show when they were open for business. Nothing like being subtle.

Your neighbors are selling drugs or women. Or sharing them freely.

Here's some of the 'evidence'.
Right now (7:15 am), the neighbors (who I've mentioned before have all the neighborhood kids playing on their front lawn most every day which, to ME, explains all the visits) have two cars parked in front of their house that aren't theirs. Veddy veddy suspicious.
But wait... we see an unfamiliar, elderly gentleman come outside and peer at one of the (beautifully maintained) rosebushes. Shortly thereafter, an unfamiliar young girl comes racing outside shouting "grandpa, grandpa".
My conclusion: One car belongs to an Aunt and/or Uncle who has kids, one car belongs to grandparents.
Her conclusion: How dare they deal to the young and elderly as well?!?

Grampa's got a crack habit! Grampa's got a crack habit!
"Why, in my day, you had to go down to Chinatown and wait behind the laundry for hours. You kids don't know how good you got it, fixing right here in the suburbs."
