Canada begins the move to OK gay marriage and the US Supreme Court gives a thumbs-down to anti-sodomy laws across all states, with the added bonus that the case that brought the sodomy issue to the Court in the first place was centered around an interracial gay couple.
In related other news, famed segregationist and ultra-ultra-super-conservative Strom Thurmond dies.
The coroner did not in any way list “deep shock at the way the world’s a-changin’” as the cause of death, but then again, no other cause of death is mentioned either. (Shush, you and your ‘old age’ theorists.)

Strom wasn't ultra-ultra super conservative. He was one of the last of your racist Democrats. Now that he is gone, the KKK only has Senator Byrd (D-W.Va)
From 1850-1930 your Democrats were the racist, segregationists. In 1930 the party split into the New Deal Democrats with Socialist plans that the Supreme Court kept declaring Unconstitutional and your traditional racist Democrats. When the Republicans sent in the Army to facilitate desegregation of the schools it was the southern Democratic govenors that fought back.
Strom and Byrd are the last of those ancient Klan boys.
As a gun-toting, cut-taxes, Capital-gains paying farm owning Republican, I pled with you, don't lump those nutjobs in with us.

Hell, Strom would have switched over if it wouldn't have messed with his seniority. All those newer pols who would have been Dixiecrats are hard-core GOP neocons now. It's the Big Tent, or was until they started the purges.

Consider yourselves luckly that you lives as far away from S Carolina as you do (if you do). My friend who lives there says that the funeral and related activities were more elaborate than the Kennedy funeral, and that TV and radio carried the coverage non-stop for five days!
